When I Smile
OBJECTIVE
Interconnected.is was asked to help NEWH tell the stories behind their hospitality scholarships.
When I Smile profiles scholarship recipient, Ajayi Oliver, a young man from the Bahamas, who after losing his mom finds support to pursue his dreams.
Nirvan and Dream Mullick of Interconnected.is hired us to produce the New York City portion of the video.
PUTTING THE PUZZLE TOGETHER
With only two days to capture scenes in a variety of locations around the NYC metro area as well as a gala event, the scheduling needed to be mapped out with precision. Following the morning sun from upstate to Central Park, magic hour in Red Hook, Brooklyn and back up to Times Square for the night lights on steadicam, we moved swiftly, multitasked and even phoned in the Director to conduct a video chat interview, when he was unable to leave California last-minute.
In addition to scheduling all the moving parts down to five minute intervals, we identified & hired crew, secured additional equipment, managed vehicle rentals and arranged for craft services as well as ensured all insurance permits and releases were in order.
FINAL PRODUCT
NEWH is the premier networking resource for the hospitality industry, providing scholarships, education, leadership development, recognition of excellence, and business development opportunities.
Behind every scholarship there is a story. This video represents the ambition behind students pursuing their dream within the hospitality industry. Their reflection tells a story of the support they have received from NEWH along the way.
We have worked with many of the collaborators from this shoot on a variety of productions in the years since.
